Static and dynamic web-sites

   All web-sites, in accordance with the method of filling pages by information, can be divided into two groups - static and dynamic. What is the difference between them? Consider the features of each species.

 Under static we understand the website that consists of unchanged HTML pages. For example, it is a business card site. That is, the user views the page in the form in which it is stored on the server.

   Positive aspects of this type of web-site are:

  • economy of use;
  • insignificant load on the server;
  • download speed;
  • ease of transfer to another server;
  • ease to create HTML pages.

   However, there are a number of shortcomings:

  • if you decide to make changes to the site (creating a new section, adding content, etc.), then there is a high probability that you will have to edit all pages, which will result in additional costs;
  • the difficulty in maintaining the integrity of the site;
  • the complexity of ensuring the separation of access rights to the content of the web-site.

   A dynamic web-site, by analogy, consists of dynamic, that is, variable pages. It should be noted that such pages are "on the fly" programmed, based on the user's request.

   The advantages of this type of web-site are:

  • the opportunity to independently make changes to the site, without the help of specialists;
  • fast display of new data;
  • ease of administration of the site and its layout;
  • wide range of functionality.

   Disadvantages:

  • high server load;
  • complexity when transferring to a new hosting;
  • significant financial expenses.

   A dynamic website is developed using the following core technologies: AJAX, CSS, PHP, JSP, Access, Oracle, ASP.

   Also, different types of CMS are used for development: Joomla, Drupal, WordPress, MODx and others. All previously listed engines are free in use.

   The pages of this site are formed in several ways:

  • combining different parts into one page;
  • filling the page with information by template;
  • a combination of the two above-mentioned options.

   For example, if you decide to create a business card site, then a more profitable and optimal option will be a static site, since no frequent updating of information is foreseen. If it's a corporate website, for example, an online store, then dynamic because it is more powerful with a wide range of functional capabilities, a large number of sections and subdivisions.

   To better understand the main difference between these types of site, we summarize the main rule: the static page is stored unchanged on the server and in the same form is submitted to the user, dynamic - is generated based on the visitor's request.

   Having analyzed all the advantages and disadvantages, we can conclude that a dynamic website provides more opportunities for users - the simplicity of changes in the content, in the design elements or any other. Static – is cheaper in the development, however, it is more expensive in the renewal of the resource. Therefore, only you can decide which of them you will choose, of course, while taking into account the purpose of developing an online resource.
